Available ScienceSuitcases

We bring ALL the supplies and equipment, set it up in your classroom, and teach it to your first class. We’ll help you re-set it and co- teach it to your second class. We stay and give you support and feedback on your third class if you like. Return the kit (minus consumables), fill out our feedback forms, and you can keep borrowing the ScienceSuitcase on your own!

Module can be for a single or better yet a double science period. We prefer to bring the suitcase on a day you have at least 2 of the class that will be using the suitcase.

Biology of COVID-19

What better reason to learn science and biology than to understand the current pandemic?

Available labs: Sterile technique and pathogen transmission, COVID-19 diagnostic testing (PCR and chromatography), viral evolution and protein structure

Available NOW: Individually tailored zoom visits on COVID-19 related topics. We will design a class with your input, and visit your classes. Grades 8-12.

Yeast Art and Genomics (YAAG) Inaugural ScienceSuitcase!

Making art with LIVING PAINT will hook your students on the biology of microorgansims.

In this module students can explore a wide variety of biology and some chemistry topics. Appropriate for late elementary, middle, high school/ Living Environment, and more advanced levels.

Potential topics include: genomics, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, ecology, cell biology, biochemistry of pigments, synthetic biology, industrial uses, and cutting edge research.

Hands on activities may include experimental design (set up, controls, and statistics), scientific method (data collection and analysis), measurements (volume, mass, size, rate), molecular biology (micro-pipetting, sterile, technique, gel electrophoresis, chromatography), microscopy, and more….

ABC’s of DNA: Properties, structure, and gel electrophoresis of DNA

High quality 3-D models of DNA that students can touch and manipulate, explore DNA replication, Amino Acid codons, and use a real agarose gel to separate DNA fragments based on length. Discuss current implications- 23 and me, genetic testing, etc… For grades 7-12.

Experiments with Enzyme Action

Enzymes make chemical reactions happen faster. Let’s see enzymes work in real time! Let’s manipulate variables! Let’s collect lots of real data. How are enzymes important for our lives? For grades 7-12. Coming very soon
